The shadow of Anthony Eden

Many years ago we had a man who waited, plotted, upset the Americans and found it difficult to cope at the very top of the greasy pole.  In the end he was sustained by drugs:

Among the side effects of Benzedrine are Insomnia, restlessness and mood swings, all of which Eden actually suffered during the Suez Crisis. His health condition is now commonly agreed to have been a part of the reason for the Prime Minister's ill judgment.

Many years later we have a man who waited, plotted, upset the Americans and found it difficult to cope at the very top of the greasy pole.  Now we have this:

A blog posted today by the journalist John Ward on his website notbornyesterday.org suggests that the PM may be in worse health than the public realise. He claims there are signs the PM is taking powerful drugs to control both depression and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).

Ward bases his hypothesis on a tip-off from a senior civil servant that Brown has recently been given a "long list of forbidden foods". The civil servant, who works regularly with the PM, told Ward that Brown had been banned from eating and drinking several specific things "because of the drugs he's on".

True or not?  We should be told.

  1. Not so sure about this, the evidence is pretty feeble and the source is anonymous.....
