A day in the life of Bob Ainsworth

Moving into the line of fire comes Bob Ainsworth, who had decided to release the damning report into defence procurement only an hour before a debate in the Commons

Liam Fox said it was a "despicable and cowardly act".  The Speaker accused him of '”rank discourtesy”.  Bob pops up to say “that the report hadn't been previously been completed”.

Thinking for a few nanoseconds that he had regained command of the House, up gets James Arbuthnot.  He had read the heavily leaked draft in July and skimmed the final version.  He told Bob that the difference was “a few words”.

Simon Carr sums up Bob’s day:

The last of Poor Bob’s prestige has gone.  He’s in charge of a war and can’t defend himself against “despicable cowardice”.
