There have been numerous comments that just as Major won a 4th term for the Tories in 1992 during a recession, Brown can do the same for Labour in 2010.
Major won in 1992 because he replaced Thatcher, who was unpopular because of the poll tax and within her own party over her stance on Europe.
It is worth reminding the Labour party of this fact if they wish to have a chance of winning in 2010.
