Brown’s night of long knives

If Darling goes from the Cabinet then strictly speaking all of these should follow, Mr & Mrs Balls, Geoff Hoon, Hazel Blears and James Purnell.  That makes seven Cabinet ministers that should be sacked.

During the so called ‘Night of Long Knives’ in 1962 Macmillan sacked exactly the same number from his Cabinet and never recovered.
