Paul Waugh has raised the question of whether there should be a television debate at the general election between the party leaders. He gives a spotted history of why they have never happened and makes the important point that we do not have a presidential system.
This time could well be different. Whenever the election is held, Labour is highly likely to be behind in the polls. Whatever you think about Brown he is a strong debater. The idea of holding one in the past has always come from the opposition leaders. Maybe this time Brown will push for the idea. What has be got to lose by not having a TV debate?
