But politics is not always about higher matters. Sometimes it is about the ugly business of making friends, keeping friends, being liked.
Nick Robinson, who to my mind has been on the money over the last couple of days, has this on his blog:
The prime minister may soon discover that being nice about someone after they've resigned from your government is leaving things much much too late.
Nick knows what is going on as he hinted earlier.
Just wait for those chimes of Big Ben at 10pm.
