Labour MP Ian Gibson has resigned with immediate effect following the scandal over MPs' expenses to force a by-election in Norwich North:
The decision of the NEC leaves me bowed but certainly not broken. My position as an MP between now and the next election is untenable.
I do feel angry that I've been singled out without knowing why.
This must be part of the so called “uncoordinated” plot. His decision could have been announced at anytime. Norwich North is a semi-safe Labour seat. The Tories only need a swing of about 6% to take the seat. The complication will be if Gibson stands as an independent. Of course, if there is a general election in October the by-election may never be called. A strange decision.
