Even taking to account that the G20 meets on 2nd April, and allowing for Easter, it appears rather odd the the budget should be delayed until 22nd.
Brown will know by 2nd what the G20 will agree to or not, as the case maybe. So why the delay? It is because he wants to give the G20 maximum impact? Or is it that he wants to use the Budget as the launch pad for the EU and local elections in June? Or something else?
Sort term tactical Gordon will have picked the date for good reason.
All modern PM<'s withoutt exception have had one eye on any upcoming local elections when pickign budget day with their chancellor. So why the fuss aoout Gordon doing the same ?
