The Times and others report today on the cost of travelling by rail. Be warned, the price of rail tickets will increase further as revenue falls in the recession. See here.
Lord Adonis made rather a crass statement, saying he was committed to:
sharing the cost of rail services fairly between taxpayers and passengers
If fares do not rise to make up the revenue shortfall, the money then comes from the taxpayer!
PS. Brown told little porky's at his news conference yesterday about the Agility Trains contract, saying this will create many jobs and that the manufacturing of the trains will happen in the UK. This will not happen as stated here and here.
Both these “little local difficulties” are fast becoming major headaches for the Government.
