Does Blair really want Brown’s backing?

Andrew Grice, the Indy’s political editor, asks if anyone can stop Blair becoming the first president of Europe?  There follows an article where the various options are presumably discussed.  For some reason, I couldn't get past the forth paragraph:

Mr Blair's status as the favourite was somewhat bolstered by Gordon Brown's endorsement on Wednesday. "If Tony Blair decides to stand as President of the European Council, once that job has been created, then of course we will support him," the Prime Minister's spokesman said.

As Blair and the rest of us know, once Brown gives anything his backing it is time to move on.
