Brown is not my Darling

If Mr Darling and Mr Brown were getting on, would the former said this about the latter using these words:

You would be very foolish to say that there were not lessons to be learned and things you could have done better.

Why use the word foolish?  The implication is that Brown has been foolish not to admit past errors.
