A U-turn on the Royal Mail sell-off

There is further evidence that Brown will drop the proposed part sell-off of the Royal Mail.  Sue Cameron reports on the forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle:

One possible berth for Mr Balls could be the business department. Lord Mandelson, the business secretary, has let it be known he wants to jump ship to the Foreign Office – much to the chagrin of his officials. Lord Mandelson had pushed the department’s scheme for selling off a stake in the Post Office to the private sector. He had even persuaded the PM to give the proposal formal backing despite large-scale opposition from Labour backbenchers. Now the word in Whitehall is that the plan will be quietly abandoned.

Interesting that Mandy wishes to be removed from defending Brown on the home front.  Perhaps he also has given up on Brown.
