Some sad news on the Labour leadership

It had to happen but I wish it hadn't.  My nomination for Labour’s next leader is now in considerable doubt.  I may now have to start another debate with John Rentoul about who is going to take over from Gordon Brown.

It is with deep regret that I have to announce that Polly Toynbee, once-upon-a-time Brown’s biggest cheer leader, has now come out for Alan Johnson.   It is reported that wild rumours will be circulated at the weekend about her expenses in hope that she will be stood down as a Guardian columnist.
