The monthly unemployment figures make grim reading. They rose 244,000 to 2.22 million in the first three months of 2009. The jobless rate rose from 6.7% to 7.1%.
But wait. The figures were due to be released by the ONS at 0930 on Wednesday, but came out at 1400 on Tuesday after an "accidental early release".
Odd how these “accidental releases” happen from time to time, especially when this months figures are the highest since Labour came to power.
It is now being reported that the figures were posted on the ONS website by mistake. That buggers up the news agenda for Wednesday. More replacement mobiles will have to delivered to Downing Street!
