There is one small matter that Gordon Brown should delete from his diary. He is due to go the States next week, before the first TV debate, to attend a ‘nuclear security and proliferation’ conference and have his picture taken with Obama.
This would be a mistake. The election is being held at home not in Washington. Moreover, Brown will be ridiculed if he gets on the plane and leave himself open to a Tory stunt.
Brown should make it clear as early as today that he will remain in the UK.
